*National Geographic has unveiled the official trailer for its ambitious new original series “Pole to Pole,” starring and executive-produced by Will Smith. The seven-episode docuseries, five years in development, launches worldwide on January 13, 2025, with episodes airing on Nat Geo and arriving the following day on Disney+ globally and Hulu in the U.S. Check out the trailer above.
Over 100 intense days, Smith traverses every continent, traveling from Antarctica’s frozen icefields to the Amazon rainforest, the Himalayan peaks, African deserts, remote Pacific islands, and the drifting ice of the Arctic, per the news release. Accompanied by leading scientists, polar athletes, and indigenous experts, he tackles extreme challenges that include skiing to the geographic South Pole, diving beneath North Pole ice, milking venom from a giant tarantula, and carefully removing a scale from a 17-foot anaconda.

“This journey was unlike anything I’ve ever done — at times I feared I might not make it home! It’s an exploration not just of the planet’s edges, but of some of the most extraordinary people living there,” said Smith. “From the coldest ice to the deepest jungles, the beauty of our world inspired my every step with awe and hope.”
Produced by Westbrook Studios, Nutopia, and Protozoa, the series combines breathtaking cinematography with groundbreaking science and intimate cultural encounters, from the Waorani of the Amazon to the San people of the Kalahari.
“With POLE TO POLE WITH WILL SMITH, we’re inviting audiences to see our planet through Will’s eyes — with all the wonder, humor, and humanity he brings to every experience,” said Tom McDonald, EVP, Content, National Geographic.
The rollout begins with back-to-back premiere episodes on January 13, followed by new installments weekly through early February. This marks Smith’s third collaboration with National Geographic, following “One Strange Rock” and “Welcome to Earth.”
