*Longtime “The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg is facing increasing scrutiny from viewers who have noticed her struggling with the teleprompter during broadcasts.
The 70-year-old Hollywood icon has been a cornerstone of ABC’s daytime talk show for nearly 20 years, but some fans are questioning whether it might be time for her to step aside.
According to TV Insider, the conversation began on Reddit, where users highlighted Goldberg’s apparent difficulty in setting up stories and pronouncing names. “I think the producers are doing her a disservice. She’s let be it known she’s dyslexic,” one fan wrote, suggesting that small adjustments—like slowing down the prompter, enlarging the text, or reviewing names in advance—could help.

“It’s painful watching her struggle with the teleprompter,” one concerned fan wrote. “I have a son who has dyslexia so I have mad respect for their plight but it feels stressful watching her mispronouncing names and fighting for her life some days with that teleprompter.”
Another commenter said, “Clearly she struggles with reading that teleprompter more and more. It’s hard to watch, but more than that, I feel bad for her.”
Some viewers claimed Goldberg’s performance has become repetitive and disengaged. “She’s been on autopilot for the best part of a decade,” one comment read. Another added, “It’s always been about money, but every year it feels more disrespectful to the show, the topics, and essentially the viewers… Whoopi doesn’t care at all now.”
One Reddit user wrote, “I wish she would just go back to acting. I adore her as an actress and thought she is a B- at best as a moderator.”
Goldberg has addressed retirement questions in the past, citing financial reasons for remaining on the show. She told Entertainment Tonight, “Who can afford to do that? If you don’t marry well, you’ve got to keep working. I’ve got to keep paying those bills, baby.”
