*Burger King President Tom Curtis is earning praise online after a video of him tasting the chain’s newly revamped Whopper went viral. The clip has drawn comparisons to a similar video featuring McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski, which was widely mocked for awkward delivery and a tiny first bite.
As The Guardian reports, Kempczinski’s video, posted in February, showed him referring to the Big Arch burger as a “product” and taking a small bite for the camera. Social media commenters criticized the clip, with one noting, “That was the smallest first bite I’ve ever seen,” and another saying, “It scares me when you call food ‘product.’”
In contrast, Curtis’s video, posted on Burger King’s TikTok, shows him enjoying the upgraded Whopper. He appears relaxed, takes a proper bite, and speaks without corporate jargon, earning comments like, “This dude knows how to take a bite,” and “He never once used the word ‘product.’”

The Whopper update was designed based on customer feedback. It includes a premium bun, creamier mayonnaise, and a protective clamshell-style box. Curtis explained, “Over the past several years, we’ve focused on strengthening our operations and modernizing our restaurants…With that work well underway, we’re now in a position to thoughtfully elevate our core menu. The Whopper is an icon, so we didn’t set out to reinvent it. Instead, we elevated it based on direct Guest feedback.”
Curtis’s authentic approach and natural presentation have resonated with viewers, highlighting the power of relatability in social media marketing, especially when compared to the viral reactions to McDonald’s CEO.
The McDonald’s Big Arch burger will be available nationwide in the U.S. for a limited time starting March 3.
