*McDonald’s is marking half a century of its iconic Egg McMuffin, the breakfast sandwich that reshaped how Americans start their mornings. Launched nationwide in 1975, the sandwich combines melty cheese, a freshly cracked egg—now 100% cage-free in the U.S.—and a toasted, buttered English muffin, establishing a simple yet enduring favorite.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary, McDonald’s is offering an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg for just $1 on Sunday, March 2, per the corporate news release. This deal is available exclusively through the McDonald’s App in honor of National Egg McMuffin Day.
The celebration continues with a BOGO offer: from March 3 through March 30, customers ordering McDelivery via the app can receive a free Sausage McMuffin with Egg with each purchase. McDonald’s has also expanded its breakfast menu nationwide, introducing bagel sandwiches for the first time across the U.S., including Bacon, Egg & Cheese; Sausage, Egg & Cheese; and Steak, Egg & Cheese options.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are joining the McCafé lineup at participating McDonald’s locations in New York City, adding to existing offerings in cities like Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Louisville. By year’s end, more than half of U.S. McDonald’s restaurants will offer the doughnuts, with full nationwide availability expected by 2026.
“Breakfast isn’t just a meal; it’s a cherished tradition and cornerstone of our brand,” said McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger. “Whether it’s my personal favorite, the Egg McMuffin, or our crispy Hash Browns, fluffy hotcakes, or sweet and savory McGriddles, we’re all about giving our customers the best start to their day.”
With $1 sandwiches, nationwide bagels, and new doughnut offerings, McDonald’s is giving fans plenty of ways to celebrate the golden anniversary of this legendary breakfast classic.
