*Disney’s Andscape has released the official trailer for “They Fight,” a new drama centered on redemption, mentorship, and survival inside a struggling boxing gym in Southeast Washington, D.C.
The film follows Walt Manigan, a reformed ex-con who returns home searching for a fresh start. He reconnects with a rundown youth boxing gym and becomes a mentor to a group of young fighters trying to build better futures, per the official synopsis.
Inside the gym, three aspiring boxers navigate personal challenges while chasing their goals. The story tracks how Walt’s return forces him to confront his past as he works to guide the next generation both inside and outside the ring.
André Holland leads the cast as Walt Manigan. Wendell Pierce and Samira Wiley also star, alongside Anthony B. Jenkins, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and Mykelti Williamson.

Writer and director Sheldon Candis described the project as deeply personal. He said, “THEY FIGHT is my love letter to one of my all-time favorite directors, John G. Avildsen.” He also called it “a Karate Kid-inspired narrative punched in the face with a John Hughes coming-of-age story about Southeast D.C. kids fighting to dream within amateur youth boxing.”
Candis co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Renzi. The film is directed by Candis and produced by Jason Michael Berman, Ben Renzo, and Renzi.
“They Fight” made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 8. The film will then debut on Hulu and Disney+ on July 17, 2026.
Andscape, which produces film and culture-driven storytelling under Disney, continues to expand its slate with projects focused on identity, community, and lived experience.
