*Serena Williams is showing off a transformed physique after shedding more than 30 pounds with the help of a weight loss medication.
The tennis icon recently posted a photo in a green one-piece swimsuit, captioning the image: “I am not perfect….but I’m perfectly me. Take out time today to celebrate being perfectly you!”
The post drew mixed reactions, with some followers expressing concern. One commenter wrote, “I’m a little alarmed that Serena is promoting injectable weight loss medication. A world class athlete focused on health fitness promoting a medication linked to many health problems is surprising and disappointing.”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion told PEOPLE in 2025 that she lost over 31 pounds using a GLP-1 medication after battling postpartum weight struggles. “I feel great,” she said. “I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”
Williams said the weight challenges began after welcoming her first daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017, and continued even with strict training and diet discipline. “I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” she explained. The problem persisted following the August 2023 birth of her second daughter, Adira River. “I never lost another pound,” Williams noted.
Before committing to GLP-1 treatment, Williams said she thoroughly researched her options. “I did a lot of research on it. I was like, ‘is this a shortcut? What are the benefits? What are not the benefits?’ I really wanted to dive into it before I just did it,” she said. After consulting with direct-to-patient healthcare company Ro, she began weekly injections in early 2024 and has since become a celebrity patient ambassador for the brand. “I lost over 31 pounds using my GLP-1 and I was really excited about that weight loss,” she said.
Williams described the results as life-changing across multiple areas of her daily life. “I just can do more. I’m more active. My joints don’t hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me,” she explained. Through it all, she remains grounded in self-acceptance. “Weight loss should never really change your self image,” she said.
