According to the news release, the program recognizes women whose achievements have left a lasting impact across sports, science, and other fields, with dolls created in their likeness.
Williams leads a global group of honorees selected for their influence and accomplishments. The lineup also features research astronaut Kellie Gerardi, race car driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado, soccer standout Chloe Kelly, surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore, and cricketer Smriti Mandhana.
Williams reflected on the honor and the role strong women have played in her life. “I have always drawn inspiration from the powerful women in my life — from my mom, sisters, and daughters to the dolls in my toy box growing up,” Williams said in a statement. “Now, I’m thrilled to be honored alongside this incredible group of female changemakers as part of the Barbie Dream Team.”

Mattel has spent years highlighting real-world role models through its Barbie brand. Since the toy line debuted in 1959, the company says more than 100 women from a wide range of professions have been celebrated through special-edition dolls and collaborations.
“Barbie has always championed the belief that girls can be anything. From astronauts to CEOs, Barbie has broken barriers and redefined what’s possible – igniting imagination and inspiring generations of girls to dream without limits,” said Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie, Mattel.
“This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to build on that legacy with the launch of our Barbie Dream Team, celebrating an extraordinary group of global trailblazers who are paving the way for the next generation. By honoring their achievements, we hope to inspire girls everywhere to pursue their passions boldly and realize their limitless potential,” Baynard added.

“I’m so excited to join the Barbie Dream Team to celebrate International Women’s Day and show girls everywhere that science and space are for everyone,” said Kellie Gerardi. “After helping open the door for scientists to fly and operate their own research on commercial spacecraft and walking through it myself as a payload specialist and astronaut, it’s now my mission to hold that door open wider for the next generation of girls to follow.”
Gerardi added, “When you’re brave enough to leave your comfort zone and dream big, not even the sky is the limit.”
Mattel will host Barbie Dream Fest, a fan event set for March 27–29 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Serena Williams is a featured speaker. The celebration is part of the company’s broader International Women’s Day campaign, which also includes retail promotions called Barbie Dream Days.
