*Tom Hiddleston is stepping into the role of a time detective for National Geographic’s upcoming event series “Pompeii: Out of Time,” a new investigation into one of history’s most famous disasters.
The three-part production follows researchers as they examine the final hours of Pompeii before the catastrophic eruption that buried the ancient Roman city. Using new discoveries and modern investigative techniques, the series aims to reconstruct what happened during the city’s last day, according to the news release.
Hiddleston serves as the guide through the mystery, helping connect archaeological evidence with the stories of the people who lived through the disaster. The series combines historical research with a detective-style approach as experts work to uncover details about the events leading up to Pompeii’s destruction.
“Pompeii: Out of Time” also reunites Hiddleston with Kevin R. Wright, the executive producer known for his work on Marvel’s “Loki.” Their latest collaboration shifts from fictional timelines to one of the most extensively studied tragedies in ancient history.

National Geographic developed the project with Plimsoll Productions, the company behind a range of documentary and factual entertainment programs. Together, the filmmakers examine the evidence left behind by the eruption and explore how new findings continue to reshape historians’ understanding of the disaster.
The series arrives as interest in Pompeii remains strong among both scholars and the public. Ongoing excavations have continued to reveal new details about daily life in the city and the circumstances surrounding its destruction.
