*A 43-year-old mother of three, Jameelah Robinson, was discovered living inside a storm drain in South Los Angeles, prompting her family to call for stronger legal and mental health intervention.
Robinson has struggled with drug use and has previously lived in a sewer system, making this reportedly her second time underground.
Her mother, Linda Robinson, confirmed her daughter’s identity after a FOX 11 report revealed the encampment. “How did she get into the situation she’s in?” she was asked. “Drugs,” Linda said.
FOXX 11 footage captured Robinson climbing in and out of the foul sewer, where the space below was littered with trash and human waste. She declined to speak on camera and walked away when outreach teams tried to offer help. “As a mom? I’m dying. I’m dead. I tried. I’ve tried everything,” Linda said.
Robinson’s sister, Kameelah Robinson, discovered her living situation after a friend shared the exclusive report. “When I viewed it, it just so happened to be my sister. That’s how I found out about her living situation,” Kameelah said.

Linda emphasized the challenges of securing help legally or medically. “I was told as long as she could tell me no, or tell the courts no, they couldn’t help her,” she said. Both Linda and Kameelah urged authorities to act more decisively, arguing that Robinson is not mentally capable of making decisions for herself.
“Just take her, because she’s not mentally able to think straight for herself,” Linda said.
City crews responded promptly after the FOX 11 report, declaring the area a “hot zone” and sealing the drain with asphalt. Despite these efforts, Robinson has not been seen or heard from since Wednesday.
Her relatives say they will continue searching for her and advocating for intervention that ensures she receives proper care.
“I couldn’t get the courts to see the mental illness in her. Now the world can see it,” Linda said. “Maybe now I can get the help I need and she needs.”
