*Singer-songwriter Lizzo revealed her first children’s book, “Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’” in a conversation with CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King. She described the project as “a beautiful marriage of everything that’s me.”
“I have a children’s book coming out and it’s called ‘Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’,’” Lizzo told King. She explained that the story reveals her origin with the flute. “Everyone always asked me my origin story with the flute. They’re like, why flute, how flute? This tells the real life story of how I started playing flute.”
When asked if a children’s book was ever on her bucket list, Lizzo responded, “I always… I love writing.” She added, “Like, I have always wanted to write The Great American novel. I used to say that when I was a kid. And that was before music took over…and I think this is such a beautiful marriage of everything that’s me.” Lizzo continued, “It’s the flute. It’s music. It’s writing. And it’s also inspiring a new generation.”

The superstar also shared the inspiration behind her character’s name. “Sasha Beatrice Flootin’…Jefferson Kirkwood Johnson Esquire…the III,” she said. Lizzo explained that Beyoncé’s alter ego Sasha Fierce influenced the character. “I felt like the flute, I had split into two different worlds when I was going to college for flute and when I wanted to be a rapper in the Houston scene. And I felt like I had to choose between the two. So I was like Sasha, or the flute will be my alter ego.”
The book’s message centers on self-expression. “This is a story about finding your voice. And the only way to find your voice is by being yourself and trusting yourself. It doesn’t matter where you are, who you know. At the end of the day, it’s always going to be about you. And by the end of the story, hopefully…Little Lizzo discovers that and Sasha,” Lizzo said.
Lizzo also reflected on performing at the Houston Rodeo. “It was like electricity. And I will tell you, I’m a perfectionist. I’m really hard on myself…It’s like thousand people. Like, it was one of the most incredible experiences in my life. And I walked away with so much more confidence…than I have ever had in my life.” She added, “It was one of the best experiences of my life.”
