*Kanye West’s documentary “In Whose Name?” is now available to stream, following its theatrical release on September 19. Fans can access the film on popular VOD services, including Apple, Amazon, Google, YouTube, and Fandango.
Filmed over six years using thousands of hours of footage, the documentary traces significant moments in West’s career, while also exploring his mental health challenges and public controversies. The synopsis states: “Set against the backdrop of fame, faith, mental health, and power, the film offers unprecedented access to Ye’s private world; stripped of spectacle, steeped in contradiction. It is a coming-of-age story for both artist and filmmaker.”
Director Nico Ballesteros explained to Deadline how West became the focus of his work. “At just 18, I was barely out of high school when my life changed overnight. I went from a middle-class upbringing to flying on private jets, shadowing one of the most famous people alive. I had studied documentary filmmaking but didn’t yet have a subject. Ye became that subject. His world gave me both purpose and a space to develop my craft. In Whose Name is the culmination of that journey.”
Ballesteros noted that the doc “brings its exploration of American belief, power and identity to a global audience, offering a deeper understanding of America’s conditions while illuminating the life and legacy of one of the most iconic entertainers of our time.”
Ballesteros previously hinted that the streaming version of the film would reveal new insights. In September, he took to X to write in a now-deleted post, “THE TRUTH IS COMING. THE CUT FOR STREAMING WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING. WE HAD TO TROJAN HORSE CULTURE WITH THE THEATRICAL RELEASE. TRUST THE PROCESS. I APPRECIATE THE PROCESS AND AM IN SERVICE TO IT.”
