Pete Hegseth racist speech draws fire after calling Black troops “debris”

According to Dollermore, the Pete Hegseth racist speech included a disturbing metaphor comparing Black service members, women and LGBTQ troops to “debris” that needs to be cleared from the U.S. military.
The phrase immediately sparked outrage online, with many accusing the Defense Secretary of using coded white supremacist rhetoric under the guise of national defense.

During his address, Hegseth said America must “clear out the debris” to rebuild a stronger military—then immediately launched into attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion programs. Dollermore says there’s no question who that debris refers to: Black Americans and other marginalized service members.
“Pete Hegseth called Black people debris. There’s no spinning that,” Dollermore said. “That’s the language of dehumanization.”

Hegseth shocked many by comparing the U.S. in 2025 to 1939—a year Adolf Hitler began his invasions and plotted genocide. Dollermore warned that such parallels are not accidental, calling the Pete Hegseth racist speech “an ideological threat” wrapped in patriotism.
“The idea of purging so-called debris from our military sounds a lot like what fascists have done in history,” he said.
