*A man who served on U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett‘s security detail was shot and killed by Dallas police SWAT officers Wednesday night after a tense standoff in a hospital parking garage—and it turns out he wasn’t exactly who he claimed to be.
The man, Diamon-Mazairre Robinson, 39, publicly known as Mike King, was fatally shot after barricading himself inside a vehicle at Children’s Medical Center Dallas around 11 p.m., according to Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux. Officers deployed tear gas to force him out, and King reportedly emerged pointing a gun at them. SWAT officers fired, and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to render aid.
Here’s where it gets complicated for the Texas congresswoman: King was wanted on an active warrant for impersonating a peace officer. He ran a business called Off Duty Police Services that placed North Texas law enforcement officers in off-duty security jobs—while allegedly posing as law enforcement himself and using multiple aliases.
A Double Life
Law enforcement sources say King drove a replica undercover police vehicle and used license plates stolen from cars outside a military recruiting office. He was a convicted felon with a criminal history, yet he managed to secure a position overseeing security for a sitting member of Congress.
Photos obtained by CBS News Texas show King standing close to Crockett at events and on the campaign trail during her recent—and unsuccessful—U.S. Senate primary bid, which she lost to James Talarico earlier this month. Documents show a person named “Mike King” received payments for “security services” from Crockett as recently as last year.

Questions Without Answers
Crockett’s office has declined to answer questions about King’s hiring or vetting process. The Dallas Police Department is also not commenting further as the investigation continues.
The incident raises uncomfortable questions about how a fugitive with a criminal history—wanted for impersonating an officer—ended up protecting a member of Congress. Sources say King was a “familiar figure in North Texas law enforcement circles” before joining her detail, suggesting his double life may have been hiding in plain sight.
Political Fallout
The story broke widely on March 13-14, with local Texas outlets leading coverage followed by national pickup. On X (formerly Twitter), reactions range from shock to pointed questions about the congresswoman’s vetting process. Conservative-leaning sites have amplified the story with headlines questioning how such a person ended up on her team.
The incident comes fresh off Crockett’s Senate primary loss, where she conceded amid some voting confusion claims in Dallas. No statement from Crockett has been released as of this writing, though that may change as pressure mounts.
For now, a hospital parking garage standoff has exposed a security nightmare—and left more questions than answers about who exactly was guarding a member of Congress.
