*Texas Senate candidate Jasmine Crockett may be taking extra measures to protect herself on the campaign trail. She says allies including former Vice President Kamala Harris and members of the U.S. Senate have expressed concern about her safety as she campaigns for the Democratic nomination in a high-stakes statewide race.
Crockett, a U.S. congresswoman, addressed safety concerns on the “Native Land Pod” podcast relaying that one unnamed senator urged her to take heightened security precautions, warning that the intensity of the campaign could put her at personal risk.
“My biggest concern is your safety. I don’t want you to become a sacrificial lamb,” the senator told her.
She said she is being fitted for a bulletproof vest as part of her preparations.

“I can tell you that the former vice president in a very similar vein is, like, ‘The country needs you. I’m going to need you to make sure that you’re as safe as possible,'” Crockett said.
The warnings highlight a double risk for Crockett — her safety and the political gamble of relinquishing her U.S. House seat for a Senate bid that could leave her without any elected office if she loses.
Republicans and some Democrats have questioned her general election prospects in Texas, a state that has been reliably Republican in federal contests.
Crockett is running against veteran Republican John Cornyn. He has served in Congress for 22 years and will be running for a 4th term in 2026. Cornyn has a solid record, and political analysts say a Crockett victory is a long-shot.
The U.S. House rep has accepted the challenge, saying the campaign reflects her commitment to issues such as voting rights, raising the minimum wage and economic justice.
