*Disney+ is preparing for its most transformative update since its 2019 launch, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, during the company’s recent earnings call, Iger revealed sweeping changes to the streaming platform’s technology and user experience. He explained that Disney+ is “in the midst of rolling out the biggest and the most significant changes — from a product perspective, from a technology perspective — since we launched the service in 2019.”
Among the updates are several “game-like features” enabled through Disney’s agreement with Epic Games, though the deal primarily involves Disney intellectual property appearing on Epic’s platform.

Looking ahead, Disney+ will also incorporate generative AI to support short-form user-generated content.
“The other thing that we’re really excited about, that AI is going to give us the ability to do, is to provide users of Disney+ with a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user-generated content and to consume user generated content — mostly short-form — from others,” Iger explained.
The announcement suggests Disney may be entering territory similar to OpenAI’s Sora, or potentially integrating with future versions of the tool. Iger also mentioned “productive conversations” with unnamed AI companies, expressing hope for a partnership that would “reflect our need to protect the IP.”
