*A new drama series is offering a personal perspective on one of history’s most infamous criminal legacies with the debut of “Dear Killer Nannies.”
Inspired by real events, the show centers on Juan Pablo Escobar’s childhood, presenting his story through a coming-of-age lens shaped by fear, loyalty, and the loss of innocence, per the news release. The narrative unfolds from the viewpoint of a young boy navigating life inside the world created by his father, Pablo Escobar Gaviria.
Told through Juampi’s eyes, the series captures the stark contrast between childhood and the violent reality surrounding him. As his father’s influence expands, danger becomes a constant presence, embodied by the hitmen who act as his so-called “nannies.” The story explores how those relationships, along with his bond with his father, shape his understanding of the world during a turbulent period in Colombia’s history.
The production draws directly from the accounts of Juan Pablo Escobar, who contributes first-person narration and appears in cameo roles in the opening and closing episodes. While Pablo Escobar’s presence remains central to the story, his role serves primarily to frame his son’s perspective, bridging the gap between a child’s perception and the harsh realities unfolding around him.
The series features a wide-ranging cast led by Janer Villareal, Miguel Tamayo, and Miguel Ángel García as different stages of Juan Pablo’s life. Laura Rodríguez, Juanita Molina, Julián Zuluaga, and Rafael Zea are among the ensemble, with additional appearances by Andrés Delgado, Carmen Electra, and John Leguizamo portraying Pablo Escobar.
Produced by Telemundo Studios, Underground Producciones, and TIS Studios, the project is led by showrunner Sebastián Ortega, who co-created the series with Juan Pablo Escobar and Pablo Farina. Filmed across more than 50 locations in Colombia, including Bogotá and the Antioquia region, the series recreates key historical settings such as Hacienda Nápoles and the Mónaco Building while delivering large-scale action sequences.
“Dear Killer Nannies” is now streaming exclusively on Hulu and Disney+.
