Wall Street Sounds the Alarm Over Zohran Mamdani’s Win
*Politics is nasty and cruel and even worse. Here’s a perfect example. After democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani stunned the nation by winning New York City’s mayoral race, Wall Street’s elite is panicking — and plotting.
Over dinner at the White House with Donald Trump, some of the country’s most powerful executives quietly launched what looks like a political counterattack.
The goal? Elect Republican Elise Stefanik as New York governor in 2026 to check Mamdani’s progressive agenda. The billionaire brain trust includes Stephen Schwarzman (Blackstone), David Solomon (Goldman Sachs), Henry Kravis (KKR), and Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan Chase), according to insiders familiar with the gathering, Telegraph is reporting.
Stefanik Becomes Wall Street’s New Political Weapon
Elise Stefanik, who launched her bid for governor last week, has quickly become the GOP’s best shot at blocking Mayor Mamdani’s bold policies. With Trump’s blessing and Wall Street’s growing interest, Stefanik is positioning herself as the one who can stop what they call a socialist “takeover” of the city.
Stefanik slammed sitting Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul as ineffective and accused her of enabling Mamdani’s radical platform.
“She bent the knee,” Stefanik told Fox News, branding Mamdani as a “tax-hiking, defund the police, anti-Semite socialist.”

Mamdani’s Agenda Sparks Business-World Meltdown
Mamdani, 34, pulled off a political upset by defeating Andrew Cuomo and winning on a progressive platform: wealth taxes, rent freezes, free buses, and deep corporate tax hikes. Unsurprisingly, Wall Street hates it.
His past calls to defund the police and controversial silence on slogans like “globalise the intifada” have also triggered concerns among Jewish communities and corporate leaders alike. Trump wasted no time calling Mamdani a “communist” and posted ominously after his win: “And so it begins!”
Trump’s Dinner Party Sparks Billionaire Brainstorm
The dinner, held in the State Dining Room, doubled as a strategy session for donors and political power players. Sources say the conversation drifted toward Stefanik as the most promising candidate to rein in Mamdani from Albany.
No official donations have been reported yet, but insiders say the interest is very real.
“I’m putting all my money into the governor’s race with Stefanik,” said Greg Kraut of KPG Funds. Others in the room echoed the sentiment — Mamdani may have City Hall, but they want Albany.

Business Leaders Split Between Charm and Strategy
Not everyone is embracing the attack mode — at least not in public. Some executives are softening their rhetoric after Mamdani’s win, publicly congratulating him while quietly supporting his opposition. It’s a classic Wall Street two-step: endorse with one hand, fund opposition with the other.
Even JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon and Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan have reached out to the mayor-elect, while Kathryn Wylde, who once said businesses were “terrified” of him, now says she looks forward to working with him.
Elise Stefanik’s Path: Governor Today, Savior of Wall Street Tomorrow?
Stefanik’s campaign is still fresh, but Republican strategists are already giddy. “She outperforms the president by 10 points,” one GOP insider claimed. They see her as a bridge between MAGA loyalists and moderate business leaders.
Stefanik had been in line for a UN ambassador role, but Trump yanked the nomination over fears her House seat could flip. Now she’s back in New York, ready to run, fundraise, and fire up voters who see Mamdani as too extreme for the Empire State.

Can Albany Stop City Hall? The GOP Thinks So
Republicans are betting that even if they’ve lost the mayor’s office, they can control what happens through the governor’s mansion. In New York, the state government holds major power over city budgets, public transit, housing, and law enforcement policy.
Governor Hochul has already shown that influence by blocking Mamdani’s plan for free buses via the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which she controls. With Stefanik in charge, conservatives hope for a full-scale lockdown on Mamdani’s initiatives.
Wall Street Wants a Firewall, Not a Revolution
Despite Mamdani’s recent popularity — and TikToks crowning him the “Gen Z mayor” — the business community sees him as dangerous. John Catsimatidis, a billionaire grocery mogul, put it bluntly: “We have to fight, fight, fight… The socialists will not force us to abandon New York.”
Wall Street may smile in photos with the new mayor, but behind closed doors, they’re betting on Stefanik and a Republican comeback. Whether that plan works remains to be seen — but the money, the power, and the pressure are already in motion.
