*Last Friday (08-08-25), a vibrant atmosphere filled Verbum Dei High School in Watts, CA, as the Big3 organization launched the Young3 Basketball program. This exciting event was more than just a basketball clinic; it was a day dedicated to inspiring and uplifting the youth from underserved communities across Los Angeles County.
The free youth basketball clinic, held from 1-3 PM PT, gathered local participants eager to learn and improve their skills while also receiving valuable life lessons through motivational speaking. The event was made possible through a partnership with Kids Are the Heart of Los Angeles (HoLA) and featured notable figures, including players and coaches from the LA Riot team and renowned BIG3 athletes.
Prominent attendees included former NBA talents Wesley Johnson, Jordan Crawford, and Elijah Stewart, among others. Unfortunately, Ex-NBAer and BIG3 star Dwight Howard was a no-show.
This noteworthy occasion not only focused on the sport but also emphasized mentorship and community engagement, showcasing the importance of providing opportunities for personal growth. The presence of figures like Ice Cube and DJ Quik showed the commitment of celebrities to champion local youth and inspire the next generation.

With a lineup of impactful contributors, such as Bro. Rizza Islam and Chaplin Bill Alexson, the event addressed the critical need for community support and mentorship.
The day was made even more special with contributions from volunteers, local parents, and sponsors like Chick-fil-A, who helped to create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone involved.
The Young 3 Basketball clinic aimed to foster both athletic abilities and positive life skills. Ryan Figueroa, DJ Love, Ashley Williams, and others ensured smooth operations throughout the day, managing everything from coaching sessions to motivational talks. The event concluded with participants leaving not just with basketball skills, but also with a renewed sense of purpose and community connection.
Video production for this inspiring day was handled by Mr. Keith O’Derek of Upfront Productions, capturing the energy and excitement that defines such crucial community events.
In a world where many youth face significant challenges, initiatives like the Young 3 Basketball program serve as a vital reminder of the power of sports and mentorship in creating lasting change. One love indeed!
