*Whoopi Goldberg‘s claims regarding a Staten Island, New York bakery have sparked outrage among local leaders and customers alike. The co-host of “The View” alleged that Holtermann’s Bakery, a cherished establishment with a storied 145-year-old history, refused to serve her special order of Charlotte Russe desserts because of her political beliefs. During a press conference held outside Holtermann’s Bakery, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella expressed his frustration over Goldberg’s comments.
“Recently someone took to the national airwaves and defamed, frankly, this family business,” Fossella declared, standing up for the bakery, which has long been a staple in the community. “We’re here to stand up for one of the best families and businesses in Staten Island and the country. Frankly, the people who defamed the Holtermann family should apologize … for making stuff up to suit their needs.”
Holtermann’s Bakery owners have adamantly denied Goldberg’s accusations, explaining that they were experiencing mechanical issues with their 60-year-old boiler when she attempted to place her order ahead of her on-air birthday celebration.
“Her political beliefs had nothing to do with it,” stressed owner Jill Holtermann.

“I really am overwhelmed,” Holtermann told the NY Post. “I’m so happy to have the support. Just to have people come out and talk and build up my business.”
