Following Stephen Colbert’s recent exit from CBS, Trump took to his social media platform on Monday to demand King’s dismissal, proclaiming, “Gayle King’s career is over.”
The Daily Beast reports that Trump amplified a New York Post article indicating that CBS is reconsidering King’s position due to falling viewership and criticism over the show’s perceived “woke” stance. He accused King of lacking “talent,” “strength,” and “ratings,” while asserting, “She never had the courage to stick to her belief in TRUMP.”
In response to Trump’s prediction about her career, Gayle King defended herself while leaving the studio on August 5. The 70-year-old host expressed regret that Trump wasn’t a fan of her journalism.
“I’m sorry he feels that way,” she told TMZ, countering claims of having “no talent.” “I enjoy my job,” she added, expressing her intent to continue performing well, while also noting that Trump’s criticism places her in good company alongside Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, and Stephen Colbert—all of whom have faced scrutiny from the former president in the past.

CBS Mornings drew just 1.8 million viewers last month, trailing both “Good Morning America” and “Today.” The show has faced criticism over segments like a Bob the Drag Queen interview about a Harriet Tubman book, which one source said was at odds with what morning audiences want.
Despite Trump asserting King once supported him, their history tells a different story. Over the years, King has openly challenged Trump, calling his comments about race insulting and denouncing his broad generalizations about Black Americans.
The Daily Beast reports that King’s representatives have been contacted for comment but have not yet responded.
