*During a White House ceremony on Friday marking a peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, President Donald Trump turned the spotlight briefly on Angolan journalist Hariana Veras with an unexpected compliment.
“I shouldn’t say this because it’s politically incorrect… She’s beautiful. And you are beautiful,” Trump said while speaking from the Oval Office, SandraRose.com reports.
“I’m not allowed to say that, you know. That could be the end of my political career, but you are beautiful and you’re beautiful inside,” he added in the X clip below, before inquiring about her professional background. Trump noted that he wished there were “more reporters” like her.
He followed up by asking how long she had covered Africa. Veras responded that she had been a journalist for a decade and had covered his first term in office.
“Yes, I know that. That’s great,” Trump replied. “So nice. And I appreciate it.”

Meanwhile, on June 27, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement in Washington, D.C., with U.S. mediation. The deal aims to end years of conflict, especially in eastern Congo where violence from armed groups like M23 has intensified.
As part of the agreement, both nations pledged to respect each other’s sovereignty, Rwanda agreed to withdraw its troops from eastern Congo within 90 days, and a joint security mechanism will be created to help maintain regional stability and prevent future clashes.
“First time in many years, they’re going to have peace. It’s a big deal,” Trump said during a news conference.
