*Disney unveiled the first trailer for “Tron: Ares” at CinemaCon 2025, offering fans a long-awaited glimpse into the latest chapter of the “Tron” universe.
Set for release on October 10, 2025, the upcoming sci-fi epic marks the third installment in the franchise that began with the groundbreaking 1982 original. Directed by Joachim Rønning, “Tron: Ares” stars Jared Leto in the title role as Ares, a highly advanced program sent from the digital world into reality—a first contact moment between humanity and artificial intelligence. The movie sets the stage for a high-stakes mission that blurs the line between man and machine:
The official plot states: “Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
Speaking at CinemaCon, Leto reflected on the legacy of the Tron series and his connection to it: “The future felt it was right around the corner. It had everything I wanted from a movie — action, adventure and spandex — it took me to a world that I never knew,” he said of the original 1982 film,” he said, per Soap Central. “This movie will hit you right in the grid.”

Alongside Leto, the cast includes Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, Arturo Castro, and Jeff Bridges, who reprises his role as Kevin Flynn. The supporting cast includes Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Jason Tremblay, Zahra Alani, and more.
Rønning offered insight into the emotional depth he hopes to bring to the film, saying, “Emotions will always be something that I strive for, and this film will be more emotional, something I don’t think the franchise has had as much in previous Tron movies,” he told Deadline.
“Both of them are, in many ways, masterpieces, but what I’m trying to do is create an emotional experience so that’s always going to be front and center. I think that that’s something that I managed to do with this film.”
Written by Jack Thorne and Jesse Wigutow, “Tron: Ares” promises to push the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling while delivering the stunning visuals and futuristic themes that fans of the series have come to expect.
