*National Geographic’s new six-part series, “Top Guns: The Next Generation,” premieres September 16 at 9/8c, offering a gripping look at Navy and Marine Corps student pilots navigating the final, grueling phase of elite strike fighter training.
Airing on National Geographic and streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu, the show captures the high-stakes journey of aspiring aviators vying to pilot the world’s most advanced aircraft, per the news release.
The series dives into the lives of these students, both in the cockpit and beyond, revealing their personal sacrifices, motivations, and bonds with family and friends. With unprecedented access, it showcases the emotional and physical toll of the program, from bombing drills to dogfights and nerve-wracking aircraft carrier landings. In-cockpit cameras deliver cinematic aerial sequences, crafted by talent behind “Top Gun: Maverick,” immersing viewers in moments of precision and pressure.
The first episode, “Strike,” airing September 16, follows students tackling high-speed bombing tests, where mistakes risk their dreams. “Catching the Wire,” on September 23, highlights the precision required for carrier landings, a critical skill for Navy pilots.

The series continues with “Attack Attack!” on September 30, introducing dogfighting against seasoned instructors, and “Fight’s On!” on October 7, where defensive maneuvers push students to their limits.
“Head-to-Head,” airing October 14, tests students in a final dogfight, with graduation looming. The finale, “Last Chance,” on October 21, sees students facing one last flight to earn their fighter pilot wings, as past failures and future aspirations collide.
