*EURweb had the opportunity to speak with several cast members from BET+‘s holiday film “Too Many Christmases,” They revealed how their genuine off-screen bonds and veteran comedy talent created magic on set.
The movie follows a couple attempting to celebrate Christmas with both sides of their family on the same day without anyone discovering their ambitious plan. Directed by Kenny Young, the film stars Porscha Coleman, and Denzel Whitaker, alongside industry veterans Jackée Harry, Valarie Pettiford, Adele Givens, and Michael Colyar.
Coleman plays Kayla, the mastermind behind what she calls “the debacle that happens.” As the cast spent time together, they quickly formed strong bonds.
“It’s my idea to spend two Christmases on the same day at the same time,” Coleman said. “And my good ol’ husband, played by Whitaker, a.k.a. Jerome, goes along with it until everything kind of just falls apart.”

“We all have so many commonalities, and we’ve all actually been fans now of each other’s work,” she said. “We all stay in touch. We’re all following each other on social media… even though we left and shot this movie in spring, here we are still connected and supporting one another.”
The younger cast members were particularly moved by working alongside industry veterans. Ratoya Banks, who plays Jerome’s sister, Gwen, recalled a touching moment with Valarie Pettiford.
“There was one day I was talking with a PA about a dressing room situation, and Valarie Pettiford overheard and she was like, ‘use my dressing room,’” Banks said. “That might sound small to you guys, but like, a star likePettiford is going to let me use her dressing room — I was just amazed.”
The set maintained a lighthearted atmosphere thanks to Colyar‘s infamous prop.
“He keeps this chicken with him. Several chickens… all the time, every day on set, if Michael was there, he would bring this chicken,” Coleman said. “And at some point, we all started hiding the chicken so he couldn’t find it. But he has backup chickens.”

The production became a family affair, with cast members’ relatives visiting the set. This created meaningful moments, especially for Jones.
“Us as entertainers, we leave our families to pursue this dream,” Juhahn Jones, who plays Lavar, said. “To have them be able to come… our director Kenny, he came up to me and was like, ‘man, that was one of my dreams — to actually get my parents to see me working.'”
“The fact that it was that open and that free for people to come and they were welcoming our families or friends to come just be a part of it — ’cause that’s an experience,” Coleman said. “This is going to definitely be one of the top ones for sure, just because of the people that we got together.”
“Too Many Christmases” is currently streaming on BET+ and is also available on Roku TV and Apple TV.
