*Album sales just aren’t what they used to be, with SZA recently topping the lowest pop album sales chart in years.
The “Kill Bill” singer’s 2022, release “SOS” was the number one album, selling just 2,425 CDs or downloads and streams totaling 52,049, Showbiz411 reports.
Behind SZA at No. 2 is her Grand National Tour co-headliner Kendrick Lamar, who came in at No. 2 with his latest album, “GNX.”
SZA’s music album chart status comes amid concerning times. At this time, there are few new releases that have made a significant impact on the charts, with big hits like Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem” showing signs of a cooldown.
It’s not much better in other genres, either. Although country vocalist Morgan Wallen has a new album arriving May 16, he as well as rapper Playboi Carti are not having the best of times.

Lamar and Puerto Rican rapper/singer Bad Bunny are the only artists who have sold a million copies since the first of the year. Overall, Showbiz411 mentioned that record sales alone won’t guarantee a successful run int he music industry. “Touring is mandatory,” the site stated.
For now, hope lies in success with upcoming releases from big names such as Miley Cyrus, who will release her ninth studio album, “Something Beautiful,” on May 30, Cynthia Erivo and Lil Wayne (June 6 for their respective albums), Benson Boone (June 20), Bruce Springsteen (June 27) and Alice Cooper (July).
