‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Film Drops May 23 – Here’s What to Expect
*Tomorrow (May 23, 2025), Disney’s highly anticipated live-action/CG hybrid remake of “Lilo & Stitch” officially hits theaters. The heartwarming story remains largely faithful to the original 2002 animated classic: Lilo Pelekai, a six-year-old girl in Hawaii, lives with her older sister Nani after losing their parents.
Lilo adopts a dog—or so she thinks—who turns out to be Stitch, a genetically engineered alien fugitive designed for chaos.
Set against the lush backdrop of Kauaʻi, the story dives deeper into themes of family, grief, and belonging. The bond between Lilo and Nani has been further developed, giving the film more emotional weight. New additions include a clearer main villain (Jumba replaces Gantu) and scenes that expand on the sisters’ struggle to keep their small ʻohana together. Critics say the pacing may rush early scenes, but the emotional payoffs and cultural detail remain strong.

What’s Next for Lilo, Stitch, and the Franchise
Disney has not yet confirmed when Lilo & Stitch will be available on Disney+ or for digital rental.
