Smokey Robinson Responds to Sexual Assault Allegations
*Motown legend Smokey Robinson has strongly denied explosive sexual assault claims made against him. Speaking with TMZ at LAX on Friday, September 5, 2025, the 85-year-old icon called the allegations “bull***t.”
The lawsuit, filed May 6, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks $50 million in damages. Four women, identified as Jane Does, accuse Robinson of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and fostering a hostile work environment.

The women allege years of abuse at Robinson’s properties in Chatsworth, Bell Canyon, and Las Vegas. Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, is also named as a defendant for allegedly enabling the misconduct.
Ongoing Criminal Investigation Adds Pressure
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau has launched a criminal investigation into the claims. NBC4 Investigates reported on August 27 that the LA County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case.
A fifth woman has since stepped forward with a sexual battery claim, though details remain limited. This follows a 2015 allegation against Robinson that did not result in charges due to insufficient evidence.
Despite the mounting accusations, Robinson insisted his reputation remains intact. “People know the real Smokey,” he told TMZ, brushing off concerns about the impact on his legacy.
Smokey Robinson’s Legal Team Calls Case a “Money Grab”
Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, described the lawsuit as an “ugly method” of trying to extract money from an “85-year-old American icon.” He predicted that evidence will clear Robinson’s name in court.
Robinson has filed a countersuit seeking $500 million, alleging defamation and extortion by the accusers. His legal team argues that the lawsuit is part of a coordinated financial scheme.
The singer, famous for hits like “Cruisin’” and “Tracks of My Tears,” has vowed to fight the allegations aggressively in both civil and criminal courts.
Public Reaction Divided as Case Gains Attention
Reactions on social media show a split among fans and critics. Some users on X expressed skepticism about the timing and motives of the lawsuit, calling it a “money grab.”
Others, however, stressed the seriousness of the allegations, noting that multiple women have now come forward. The story has ignited heated debate about accountability for powerful public figures.
Until prosecutors announce whether charges will be filed, the case remains unresolved, leaving Robinson’s future and reputation hanging in the balance.

What This Means for Smokey Robinson’s Legacy
Smokey Robinson’s career spans more than six decades, cementing him as one of Motown’s most influential artists. But the recent lawsuit threatens to overshadow his musical achievements.
As the legal battle unfolds, questions remain about how these allegations could reshape his public image and long-standing reputation as a beloved entertainer.
