*Former Bad Boy Records artist Shyne will unpack the infamous New York nightclub shooting that put him behind bars for nearly a decade in a new Hulu documentary.
The synopsis for the project titled “The Honorable Shyne” reads: “His journey is one of redemption, resilience, and transformation. This documentary provides an intimate look at Shyne’s personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration and a return home to Belize, where he finds new purpose and strives to lead his country to a brighter future.”
In the trailer, the rapper-turned-politician says, “I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy” for the crime.
“I spent 10 years in prison, but I was able to move on,” Shyne explains in the clip. “There’s a time to pivot, there’s a time to transition.”
Shyne (born Jamal Barrow) previously opened up about being Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ “fall guy” in the infamous 1999 nightclub shooting also involving Jennifer Lopez.

We reported earlier that one of the shooting victims, Natania Reuben, has for years asserted that it was Diddy, not Shyne, who shot her during an altercation between the rap mogul and Club New York patron Matthew Allen, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including herself. Lopez was arrested and released, while Diddy was acquitted of all charges. Shyne, however, served an eight-year prison sentence. In 2011, Combs settled civil suits with the victims, paying over $2.3 million.
In a clip from the trailer, Diddy insists he was innocent of the shooting. “I had nothing to do with a shooting in this club,” he said in footage from a press conference.
During an interview with Channel 5 Belize, Shyne, who is now the head of the Belize United Democratic Party, addressed the incident while responding to Reuben’s remarks.
“It opens wounds when you hear, you know, the victim saying that, you know, it was Diddy that shot her,” Shyne told Channel 5, Complex reports.
He added, “Everyone knew all along that I was the fall guy. But my political enemies and, you know, detractors try to make me into, you know, this criminal.”
Shyne continued, “But everyone knew that I was a young kid that took the fall. Everyone knew that, that was the story. I’m just saying that I maintained my innocence all this time.”
“The Honorable Shyne” debuts on Hulu on November 18. Watch the trailer below.
