*Earlier this year, TODAY Show co-host Sheinelle Jones announced she would be stepping away temporarily from the program to focus on a family health matter. She shared the news in an emotional Instagram message, which co-host Savannah Guthrie later read aloud on the show.
“Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” Jones wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my TODAY Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle ❤️”
The mom of three has been part of NBC News since 2014 and began co-hosting the third hour of TODAY in 2019. While her absence raised questions, especially as she missed key moments like Hoda Kotb’s farewell in January, her leave is allegedly temporary.
Her fellow anchors have continuously voiced their love and support. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Carson Daly shared that the team thinks about her daily: “I don’t know anything about when or timeline [for her return], but we always think about her,” he said.
Meteorologist Dylan Dreyer echoed that sentiment, describing the team’s tight bond: “We chat with her often. A week doesn’t go by where we’re not checking in, seeing how she’s doing. We pray for her all the time… we can’t wait for her to come back.”

Jenna Bush Hager also emphasized the deep sense of family that defines the TODAY team: “The TODAY Show is a family, and we take care of each other. We love each other, and that’s the truth.”
Al Roker added that fan support has made a meaningful impact, saying, “We’re so grateful to all the fans and viewers who’ve been praying for her and her family and just taking it one day at a time. The good news is this is a family, and we’ve got each other’s back.”
During a segment on Access Hollywood, Craig Melvin provided a brief update: “Just talked to her a couple of days ago. She’s taking some time to be with her family, and we talk to her all the time. And we love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone else loves her too.”
Jones’ absence has been strongly felt both on screen and among viewers, but the outpouring of love and continued communication from her TODAY family reflect the powerful connections she’s built over her years with NBC.
“We’re just praying for her,” Roker said. Dreyer added, “She misses being here. She wishes she was here with us but she’s doing what she needs to do, and she’ll be back.”
While there’s no confirmed timeline for her return, her colleagues and fans remain hopeful and supportive as she continues to prioritize her family’s well-being.
