‘He’s a Hater’: Roland Martin and Charlamagne Clash
*Who can say they DIDN’T see this one coming? A public war of words has broken out between Roland Martin and Charlamagne Tha God over comments about the recent government shutdown.
These two have clashed over politics before. The last time was over DEI. This time, Martin accused Charlamagne of simplifying the issue and spreading misleading views on health care.
Charlamagne fired back, calling Martin a “hater” and claiming the journalist often talks behind his back. The argument quickly gained traction online, with fans and critics jumping into the conversation.
Martin Accuses Charlamagne of Oversimplifying the Shutdown
The disagreement began after Charlamagne suggested Democrats should stop pushing back politically and instead focus on giving people access to benefits. He shared his view during an episode of “The Breakfast Club,” while discussing the shutdown with guest Mimi Brown.
Martin responded by criticizing the statement, saying it ignored the larger political landscape. He highlighted how most companies send out 60-day notices for price hikes and stressed that Democrats must hold the line to protect progress on health care and inflation relief.

Panelists Question Charlamagne’s Political Credibility
Another commentator joined Martin’s side, comparing Charlamagne to “a Wendy Williams sidekick” and suggesting he should stick to entertainment news. They argued his lack of background in politics made his health care opinions less credible.
One panelist said Charlamagne’s financial privilege — being able to afford insurance easily — distanced him from people who depend on Affordable Care Act subsidies. Critics warned his advice could harm low-income communities if Democrats caved under pressure.
Charlamagne Hits Back on ‘The Breakfast Club’
Charlamagne responded by naming Roland Martin his “Donkey of the Day” on “The Breakfast Club.” He denied spreading misinformation and asked Martin to explain exactly what he said that was false. He also invited Martin to come on the show to discuss it directly.
However, many online commenters saw his response as immature. Instead of addressing the criticism, Charlamagne chose personal attacks, which some labeled “juvenile” and “unprofessional.”
Feud Sparks Public Reactions and Misinformation Concerns
Viewers took to YouTube and social media to weigh in on the feud. Some sided with Martin, saying Charlamagne’s comments weren’t rooted in facts and added to harmful misinformation within Black communities.
Others expressed disappointment that two major Black voices were publicly feuding rather than uniting to tackle real issues. One commenter wrote, “We need to build each other up, not tear each other down on air.”
Shutdown Deal Reached as Debate Continues
Meanwhile, the political situation that sparked the argument is moving forward. The Senate, as we reported earlier, voted 60–40 to approve a deal that includes a December vote on extending health care subsidies. Eight Democrats crossed the aisle to support the bill.
The legislation now heads to Donald Trump’s desk for final approval. If signed, it would officially end what has become the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
What This Means for Black Political Commentary
This feud highlights growing questions about who gets to speak on politics in the Black media space. While Roland Martin is known for in-depth political analysis, Charlamagne’s platform brings millions of listeners into the conversation daily.
As Black voices grow louder in national discourse, debates like this may continue—but many hope future conversations center on unity, accuracy, and accountability rather than public takedowns.
