*Newly released police video has surfaced showing former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman appearing visibly upset with officers during his DUI arrest in February 2024.
The footage, obtained by TMZ Sports, was recorded by a Washington State Patrol squad car camera after Sherman was allegedly speeding and swerving on the road. The clip shows several officers arriving after Sherman was pulled over. At one point, an officer is heard saying, “Did you see who it was? Richard Sherman from the Seahawks. I’ll let you take it.” Sherman acknowledged to police that he had “two margaritas” before driving that night.
Officers administered field sobriety tests off camera. When they later handcuffed Sherman, he appeared visibly irritated and complained that an officer was gripping him too tightly. Once placed in the patrol vehicle, he reportedly drifted off to sleep.
Authorities stated that Sherman declined a breathalyzer test. Prosecutors later claimed a blood test showed his blood alcohol concentration was .11, exceeding the legal limit of .08. Court records indicate he had been driving 79 mph in a 60 mph zone in Bellevue when he was stopped. Documents also noted that Sherman’s eyes were “bloodshot and watery” and that there was an “odor of intoxicants.”
Sherman was booked into the King County Correctional Facility and charged with DUI. Last month, he entered a deferred prosecution agreement requiring him to acknowledge a substance use disorder and participate in two years of treatment. He also admitted the police report “contains sufficient information to support a finding of guilt.”
As part of the agreement, Sherman will remain on probation for five years and must avoid any violations during that period to prevent reinstatement of the DUI charge.
