*Fans of the iconic video game franchise now have a first look at the latest chapter in the Mortal Kombat saga. A new trailer for “Mortal Kombat II” has been released, offering a glimpse at the intense, no-holds-barred battles as Earthrealm’s champions confront the tyrannical Shao Kahn.
The trailer highlights Karl Urban reprising his role as Johnny Cage, joined by Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi, also known as Scorpion. Viewers can expect a visually striking and gory clash of fan-favorite fighters as the fate of Earthrealm hangs in the balance.
According to the official synopsis, “Mortal Kombat II” continues the story from the 2021 reboot. The champions—now reinforced by Johnny Cage—must battle one another in an ultimate struggle to overthrow Shao Kahn’s dark rule and defend their world from destruction.
Simon McQuoid returns to direct the sequel, building on the franchise’s legacy with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the video game by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The production also features Stephen F. Windon as cinematographer, Yohei Taneda as production designer, Stuart Levy as editor, and Benjamin Wallfisch composing the score. Producers Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid lead the collaboration between Atomic Monster and Broken Road.

Following the success of the 2021 reboot, which earned $84 million on a $55 million budget and became HBO Max’s most successful film launch at the time, anticipation is high. Mortal Kombat II will be released in theaters and IMAX in North America on October 24, 2025, with international releases starting October 22.
