*Authorities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA are investigating the death of a 1-year-old child whose parents have been charged with chronic child neglect, with police also examining allegations that alcohol may have been given to the infant.
The child’s parents, Kevin McCall, 30, and Christina Davis, 23, were arrested following the February incident. Officers responded on Feb. 22 to a report of a “pulseless nonbreathing child” at a Milwaukee apartment. The baby was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead, Law & Crime reports.
According to police, rigor mortis had already begun by the time medical staff attempted resuscitation. The infant was also found “covered in urine and feces,” investigators said.
During the investigation, Davis told police that both she and McCall had left their children alone at times and failed to properly care for the baby on the day of the incident. McCall also admitted to physically disciplining the couple’s 6-year-old daughter.

The 6-year-old later told detectives she had seen her mother preparing a bottle that contained what was described as “medicine” that would make the infant “pass out.” She identified the substance as a 50 mL bottle of Fireball whiskey and told investigators, “I don’t think it is medicine.”
Police also recovered an empty Fireball whiskey bottle inside the apartment.
Davis denied giving alcohol to the baby, saying she only administered cold and flu medication. However, investigators noted inconsistencies in statements given by both parents regarding the child’s care and supervision.
Authorities reported that the medical examiner found no signs of trauma, illness, or infection that clearly explained the cause of death.
Court records show Davis and McCall admitted to leaving the children home alone repeatedly over several months, in some cases multiple times per week.
Both parents were charged with two counts of chronic child neglect and remain in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail on $10,000 bond. They are scheduled to return to court on May 29.
