*Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. recently opened up about his personal life during an appearance on the latest episode of “Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show.” Porter shocked host Justin Laboy by revealing that he is still paying rent for his ex-girlfriend months after their relationship ended, Fadeaway World reports.
Porter explained that during their relationship, his then-girlfriend found an apartment she loved, but it was well beyond her budget. “She’s looking around for her apartments, and she came across one, but it was way out of her price range,” he said. “It was double what she could afford. So, I was like, ‘This is really nice. I want you to be able to stay here. I want to be able to pull up and stay here… What can you afford? I’ll pay the rest.'”

The 27-year-old committed to covering part of the rent for a year, no matter what happened between them. “So, I end up doing that,” Porter said. “… I said whatever happens in this relationship, for the next year I’m committed to paying this rent… We ended up breaking up five, six months into the rent, and basically that’s where I’m at now, where I’m like, ‘Man, do I keep helping her out or is it cooked?'”

After the breakup, Porter, whose current contract will bring his career earnings to $194 million by 2027, revealed that his ex-girlfriend called him asking for financial help. He admitted he didn’t mind paying because he wanted to keep his word. Laboy then suggested Porter pay off the remaining amount at once to move on completely, but Porter had a different approach.
“Because she need to act right month-to-month n***a,” Porter explained. “… I see she’s wilding and like, bro, it’s going to be hard to continue that agreement. You feel me? That’s going to be tough because if you’re out here wilding, get that next dude to pay that rent.”
Porter clarified that he’s only willing to continue helping her as long as there isn’t another man involved. If she starts dating someone new, he believes it’s no longer his responsibility to support her financially. Check out his full remarks in the clip above.
