*During a recent appearance on Showtime’s Thriller 40 documentary, will.i.am explained why Michael Jackson pioneered ad-libs on songs.
As Hip Hop DX reports, the rapper/music producer played Jackson’s background vocals on 1982’s “Beat It” to support his point.
“For all the new school cats that are going on record and ad-libbing, I’m sorry. Michael did that first,” will.i.am said. “Why was he yawning on a record though? It shows the freedom and how comfortable he felt in the studio without worrying about people’s judgment or like, ‘Yo what’s that?’ Because you know he was bringing the freaking skills,” he added.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman continued: “You knew he was bringing ultra talent and imagination for him to be like, ‘You know what? I feel like yawning right here.’ And I listen to his ad-libs, he’s doing all that [beat boxes]. He’s doing all this rhythmic stuff.”

We reported earlier that Will.i.am teamed up again with Britney Spears on a surprise single titled “Mind Your Business.” The pair previously collaborated on the 2012 hit “Scream & Shout.”
Will.i.am sat down with “CBS Mornings” in July to talk about the meaning behind the song, saying, “When you’re in the spotlight, a lot of times, you just want to live your life.”
“There’s a thin line, and everyone deserves their version of privacy,” he said.
Spears and will.i.am are longtime friends, and he noted how he championed her “through her times when she was fighting for her liberation,” adding, “She is an amazing person.”
