*Anticipation is building rapidly for “Michael,” as early projections suggest the upcoming biopic could deliver a major box office debut when it arrives in theaters later this month. Industry tracking indicates the film is already gaining strong momentum through advance ticket sales, signaling significant audience interest well before release.
Reports from Box-Office Pro describe the film’s pre-sale performance as “absolutely killing it,” with internal forecasts pointing toward a domestic opening weekend between $80 million and $90 million. Those figures apply only to the United States, leaving room for even larger totals globally.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film presents a sweeping portrayal of Jackson’s life, covering multiple stages of his personal and professional journey. Jaafar Jackson takes on the central role, portraying his famous relative in what marks a major on-screen debut. Additional casting includes Juliano Krue Valdi as a younger version of Jackson, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson.
Fuqua has spoken openly about his experience working with Jaafar Jackson, emphasizing the authenticity he brings to the role. “It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life. There was such a spiritual connection when I first met Jaafar, who has a natural ability to emulate Michael and such a great chemistry with the camera,” he said.
According to the film’s official synopsis, “Michael” aims to explore both the public and private dimensions of the iconic performer. The story is set to highlight “triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale – from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, captured by his most iconic performances.”
“Michael” is scheduled to debut on April 24, with Lionsgate handling distribution in the United States and Universal Pictures overseeing its international rollout.
