*”Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” star Masika Kalysha confirmed her estranged husband, Jamar Champ, died in a tragic car crash on a Houston freeway on Tuesday. He was 38 years old.
According to a statement from the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred after midnight on Oct. 28. Per EW, authorities said a silver BMW driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of 6600 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) collided head-on with a silver Tesla Cybertruck. The impact caused the BMW to ignite and the Tesla to strike a blue Freightliner 18-wheeler. The BMW driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Champ’s family identified him as the Tesla driver. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, according to HPD. The crash remains under investigation.

Kalysha confirmed her husband’s death on social media, including a statement shared with The Shade Room. “It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ,” she wrote. “During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory.”
The couple married in 2021 and shared a 3-year-old daughter, Amari. Kalysha is also mother to Khari Barbie Maxwell, her daughter with rapper Fetty Wap. Hours after the crash, Kalysha appeared to reference the tragedy in a post on X. “God woke me up at 2:00am… I couldn’t sleep,” she wrote. “I didn’t know why. Jesus Christ I just received the worse news of my life. Pray for me and my kids please.”
She later expressed her grief and anger over the loss. “I’m so mad at the driver that took your life. I’ve never felt this much anger and pain and confusion all at once,” she captioned a video showing Champ with their children.
“All you wanted was your baby and to be a Godly family man. We found out about @amarihermes on his 35th bday. I was 4.5 months pregnant and had no idea. @1of1champ4x smiled from ear to ear my entire pregnancy,” she continued. “No matter what you go through with a person, you never want this. You always think you have more time. ?”
In previous interviews, Kalysha revealed that she and Champ had been separated for much of 2023 and were finalizing their divorce.
