*“SNL” veterans Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim revived their popular Mid-Day News sketch. This time, host Shane Gillis teamed up with Heidi Gardner in the hilarious game of guessing whether a crime suspect was Black or white.
The sketch has remained largely the same since its 2019 debut, with Thompson and Nwodim portraying WANU news anchors who celebrate whenever a crime is attributed to white suspects. Watch the segment above.
Nwodim explained in an interview with The Ringer, how her anxiety while watching the news inspired the sketch.
“Whatever sort of crime is happening—there’s a suspect on the loose, and we’re trying to find the suspect—I’m always like, ‘My goodness, what a terrible crime!’ And I go, ‘Please don’t let it be a Black person.’ Because we don’t need that kind of press. I don’t want that kind of press for us.”

Another stand-out moment for Gillis was a commercial called CouplaBeers in which he played a spokesperson for “a revolutionary medication that treats anxiety and depression fast.” He also appeared in a skit spoofing “The Voice,” and he played a divorced dad in a PBS series.
Elsewhere on last night’s SNL, Mike Myers debuted his Elon Musk impersonation during the cold open. Watch the clips below.
