*Peacock has dropped the teaser trailer for its reimagining of “The ‘Burbs,” confirming that the first season will land on the platform on Feb. 8. The eight-episode mystery comedy centers on a couple played by KeKe Palmer and Jack Whitehall, and draws inspiration from the 1989 film that went on to achieve cult status.
According to the official synopsis, the story “follows a young couple (Palmer, Whitehall) who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.” The cast also includes Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar. As Variety reports, Celeste Hughey leads the creative team as creator, writer, and executive producer, with Rachel Shukert also contributing writing and executive producing duties. Palmer expands her role beyond the screen by serving as an executive producer. Dana Olsen, who wrote the original film, joins as co-executive producer, and Nzingha Stewart directs and executive produces.
The 1989 movie starred Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, and Corey Feldman. The story follows suburban residents who become convinced that their newly arrived neighbors are murderous. The film opened at number one and ultimately earned over $49 million worldwide on an $18 million budget.
