*After more than 30 years in R&B, Keith Mitchell is starting a bold new chapter. He’s going solo with his first gospel project titled Food For Your Life, which is releasing today (07-11-25). Known for his smooth vocals in After 7, Mitchell is now sharing his faith through music.
Mitchell co-founded the Grammy-nominated group After 7 in 1987 with brothers Melvin and Kevon Edmonds. Their debut album featured hits like “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop,” produced by Babyface, L.A. Reid, and Daryl Simmons. After early success, the group paused before reuniting years later.
After 7 Reunion Brings Highs and Heartbreak
In the late 2000s, After 7 came back together, releasing new music and touring again. Their 2015 single “I Want You” hit the Top 10 on the Adult Contemporary charts. But tragedy struck in 2019 with the passing of Melvin Edmonds.
Despite the loss, the group released a final album Unfinished Business in 2021. Then in January 2025, Keith Mitchell officially parted ways with the group to focus on his solo journey.
