*A Los Angeles judge has ordered Kanye West to take part in a deposition within the next month. The order stems from a lawsuit alleging that his now-defunct Donda Academy fostered a discriminatory and abusive work environment, All Hip Hop reports.
In 2024, former Donda Academy employee Trevor Phillips filed a lawsuit accusing West of creating a toxic workplace marked by antisemitic comments and discriminatory treatment of Black staff. Phillips, who joined the academy in November 2022, claims West treated Black employees far worse than their white counterparts and frequently used inflammatory language.
According to court filings, West allegedly suggested harsh punishments for students, including shaving their heads and building a “jail” on campus. The complaint also describes a disturbing incident in which West publicly berated Phillips with vulgar language in front of children and parents, even going so far as to threaten him with physical harm.
The complaint outlines a series of alarming allegations, including claims that West praised Adolf Hitler, denied the Holocaust, and mishandled school funds. After repeated failed attempts to get West to testify, Phillips’ attorneys pushed for court intervention, leading the judge to order an in-person deposition.
Phillips is seeking financial compensation along with a court order that would bar West and his affiliated businesses from running schools for minors in California. The lawsuit lists 11 claims, including discrimination and wrongful termination, Complex reports.
“By filing this lawsuit, we hope our injured clients’ rights are vindicated, and that the famous artist Mr. West understands that his messages – which we alleged preach discrimination, antisemitism and Hitler-love – have no place in the world,” stated Phillips’ attorney, Carney R. Shegerian, when the lawsuit was filed.
Non-compliance with the deposition order could result in penalties or sanctions for West.
