*The estate of Carl Weathers, known for his iconic role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky films, has been settled, with a judge approving a six-figure inheritance for his sons.
Weathers, who passed away from natural causes at his Venice, California home on February 2, 2024, left behind an estate valued at $870,053.83, The Blast reports.
A court-appointed administrator reviewed his finances to ensure all debts were cleared and assets accounted for before distributing the estate. It was confirmed that Weathers had no outstanding debts or creditor claims, though $40,000 was allocated for administrative and legal fees. His will, originally drafted in 1988 and amended in 2014, named his sons, Matthew and Jason, and former spouses as beneficiaries.
According to In Touch, the final report noted: “There have been no sales, purchases or exchanges of assets, nor any changes in the form of assets. The estate is solvent.”
Weathers’ career in the entertainment industry spanned over 50 years, and his legacy lives on through the Carl Weathers Living Trust, co-managed by his sons, Matthew and Jason.

Born in New Orleans, Weathers played college football at San Diego State and briefly played professionally with the Oakland Raiders and in the Canadian Football League. He gave up football in the mid-1970s and began to pursue acting, earning roles in two blaxploitation movies before his breakthrough with “Rocky.”
“[He] was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life,” Weathers’ family said in a statement after his passing.
“Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend,” the statement continued.
