*Janet Hubert is joining the fourth and final season of “Bel-Air,” Peacock’s reimagining of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
Hubert, who played Will Smith’s Aunt Vivian in the original series, will portray a wise woman who meets Hilary (Coco Jones) and becomes instrumental to the Banks family, according to EW. Inspired by Morgan Stevenson Cooper’s viral trailer that reimagined the iconic ‘90s sitcom, season 4 of “Bel-Air” follows Will (Jabari Banks) trying to balance the fun and excitement of senior year while Carlton (Olly Sholotan) tests his own resolve as he deals with the fallout of some very big decisions that could threaten his future.
Hubert’s return comes decades after she left “Fresh Prince,” where she played Aunt Viv until Daphne Maxwell Reid replaced her in season 4. The recast sparked controversy, and Hubert publicly criticized Will Smith, labeling him an “egomaniac” and accusing him of her firing.

The two reconciled in 2020 during an HBO Max reunion special. Hubert recently revisited an Atlanta radio station significant to their history, joking, “I am at the scene of the crime right now… this station was the station that he did that first interview,” per Revolt.
Hubert recalled how Smith “dogged me out” in that early interview, a moment that marked the beginning of a very public rift.
She reflected, “It’s very cathartic for me and very healing for me to be here… We’ve come full circle, everybody.” Asked if they are on good terms today, Hubert smiled: “So good.” She also credited Smith for supporting her independent animated film, “JG and the BC Kids.”
“Imma give my baby his props. He put together the website with his team for me… gave me his entire social media team to work with and also helped me put the pictures out there to Amazon, to Netflix, to this one, to that one… Gave me his entire team,” Hubert explained.
