Khamenei Reported Dead in Airstrike
*Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in the ongoing joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, according to multiple reports citing senior Israeli officials.
The development late Feb. 28 marks a dramatic escalation in the Middle East crisis. Senior Israeli officials told Reuters, CNN, and Fox News that Khamenei’s body was found in the rubble of his heavily damaged compound in Tehran following targeted strikes on the leadership site.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address that there are “growing indications” that Khamenei is “no longer alive,” describing the destruction of the “compound of the tyrant Khamenei” in the heart of Tehran.
The operation, part of broader major combat operations announced by President Donald Trump, specifically targeted Khamenei’s residence early in the assault. Satellite imagery showed heavy damage and black smoke rising from the area.

Tehran Denies Supreme Leader’s Death
Iranian officials have flatly denied the reports. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei and other leaders insist Khamenei, and other top officials are “safe and sound” and remain in command.
State media outlets Tasnim and Mehr echoed this, claiming the leadership is intact and operational. No official Iranian confirmation of Khamenei’s death has emerged, creating conflicting narratives as the fog of war persists.
Khamenei, 86, has ruled Iran since 1989 as its ultimate authority. His death could trigger chaos in succession, with the Assembly of Experts tasked with appointing a new leader. Potential regime instability could lead to intensified Iranian retaliation beyond the missiles already fired at U.S. bases and Israel.
The situation remains fluid and unverified independently. No photos, videos or direct Iranian acknowledgment of the death have surfaced. Iranian state media continues to assert leadership continuity amid protests, missile exchanges and airspace closures.
For global audiences, this marks one of the most dramatic turns in the Middle East crisis, with risks of wider war, oil price spikes and impacts on diaspora communities worldwide.
