*A young puppy named Peanut is facing a long and difficult road to recovery after arriving at Pasadena Humane with injuries serious enough to require immediate medical attention.
Peanut was discovered in Sierra Madre on March 9, bearing extensive trauma that included a dislocated jaw and the loss of most of his nose. Pasadena Now reports that his recovery is expected to take several weeks, with staff carefully monitoring his progress at every stage. The extent of his wounds has made his treatment particularly complex.
His nose remains one of the most challenging aspects of his recovery – with too little skin available to seal the wound, healing must occur slowly from the inside out. Veterinary teams are currently working to build a treatment plan tailored specifically to the nature and severity of his injuries.

To support his breathing during recovery, a stent was inserted to keep his nostril open while the surrounding tissue heals. This measure ensures that Peanut can breathe more easily as his condition improves. His care requires ongoing attention and adjustments as his body responds to treatment.
Despite the extent of his injuries, shelter staff say Peanut has already shown encouraging signs of progress. “Peanut still has a long healing journey ahead, but he’s already showing how resilient he is,” Pasadena Humane said in a statement.
The organization also noted, “Despite everything, this little pup has been so brave.”
Pasadena Humane accepts donations to its Miracle Medical Fund, which helps cover the costs of treating animals like Peanut. More information can be found at https://pasadenahumane.org.
