*Serena Williams‘ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, recently faced backlash from fans after commenting on the growing presence of “incel culture” online.
Ohanian raised concerns on social media after describing the phenomenon as a “real” and “thriving” issue that is likely to intensify.
“Incel culture is real, and thriving online. As more and more young men realize the world is passing them by, faster than ever, I fear the crisis is only gonna get worse,” Ohanian posted on X (formerly Twitter).
His remarks sparked criticism, particularly from tennis fans who associate Reddit with fostering such culture. Many took to social media to express their disapproval of his comments.
One fan noted that Ohanian has been a part of the problem of “growing incel culture,” as Reddit is a place where anti-woman ideology flourishes.

“Sir you are part of the problem. Your platform literally birthed this sh*t, refused shut down those communities. I honestly couldn’t care less about “incels”. I hope these so called start self existing at rapid rate, society is better without them,” a fan wrote.
Another commenter added, “This is the founder of reddit. a site that has multiple misogynistic rape subreddits up and thriving while feminist subs get banned all the time.”
“He flies under the radar because he’s a #girldad and his wife is one of the greatest athletes of all time but this man much like Jack is responsible for creating one of the most toxic online spaces to exist and is now trying to sell us the solution,” X user @SimplyAYT_ posted.
“This is rich coming from the guy who gave incels an incubator for YEARS, With moderators who silence anyone talking abt STRUCTURAL oppression. To this day, u can’t say words like ‘patriarchy’ and ‘misogyny’ on Reddit, And YOU were OK with that environment,” X user @jukiejones wrote.
Several critics pointed out that incel culture started on Reddit.
