*Warner Bros. Discovery gave fans around the world their first real look at the new “Harry Potter” television series during a London event tied to the UK launch of HBO Max, dropping a title, a teaser trailer, and a premiere date all at once.
The show takes its name directly from the first entry in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding saga, adopting the title “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.” Deadline reports that the series is scheduled to arrive on Christmas Day, debuting on HBO and available exclusively on HBO Max across all active markets, including Germany, Italy, and the recently added UK and Ireland.
Here’s the official synopsis: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.”
The trailer offers glimpses of Harry, Aunt Petunia, Ron, Draco, Snape, Ollivander, Professor McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid. Dominic McLaughlin takes on the central role of Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout portraying Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively.

John Lithgow steps in as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer embodies Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu takes on Severus Snape, and Nick Frost brings Rubeus Hagrid to life.
