*The Gemini app is expanding its creative toolkit with the rollout of Lyria 3, the latest generative music model from Google DeepMind. Now available in Beta, the feature allows users to produce original 30-second tracks using simple text prompts or uploaded images, per the news release.
With Lyria 3, users can type in a concept or mood and receive a fully formed track in seconds. The model automatically generates lyrics based on the prompt, offers expanded control over style, vocals, and tempo, and delivers more layered, musically intricate compositions compared to earlier versions. Users can also upload photos or videos and ask Gemini to compose a soundtrack inspired by the content.
Each generated track includes custom cover art created by Nano Banana, making it easy to download or share via link. The feature is designed as a creative outlet rather than a professional production tool, giving users a playful way to add personalized soundtracks to everyday moments.
Lyria 3 is also being integrated into YouTube’s Dream Track, enhancing music options for Shorts creators in the United States and expanding to additional countries. The update allows creators to craft more customized lyrical or instrumental audio for short-form videos.
All audio produced through the Gemini app is embedded with SynthID, Google’s invisible watermark that identifies AI-generated content. The platform now supports audio verification alongside image and video checks, enabling users to upload files and determine whether they were created using Google AI tools.
Google says it developed Lyria 3 with attention to responsible AI practices, collaborating with the music community and applying safeguards around copyright. The system is intended for original expression and does not replicate specific artists, instead drawing only broad stylistic inspiration when prompted.
Lyria 3 is available to users 18 and older in multiple languages, with desktop access rolling out immediately and mobile support following in the coming days.
