*Michael Jackson impersonator Fabio Jackson, known for his uncanny resemblance to the late pop icon, has ignited controversy after making unsubstantiated claims about Michael’s racial background.
Fabio asserted in a TikTok livestream that Jackson was mixed race and that his mother, Katherine Jackson, was mixed with Hispanic and Japanese, drawing anger and accusations of erasing the singer’s Black identity.
Fabio previously gained attention for his reaction to the first trailer for the MJ biopic “Michael.” He and fellow impersonator Michael Trapson streamed a side-by-side TikTok reaction filled with enthusiasm and scrutiny. Their commentary ranged from costume analysis to technical observations, giving viewers an inside look at how professional impersonators assess Jackson’s look and style. Fabio praised Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of the pop star in the film, expressing both excitement and careful critique. “I knew that I was going to nitpick,” he said. “When I saw the trailer, I saw that some of the things could have [been] done better. … Man, how could it be that they messed up on a couple of things that shouldn’t’ve been messed up.” He noted smaller styling choices that seemed off, including MJ’s hair and certain wardrobe details.
“Too much legwarmers,” Fabio added. “Michael only wore those things a couple of times.” He and Trapson agreed that one of the iconic gloves appeared incorrect in a specific shot, highlighting the attention to detail that fans and impersonators share.
Fabio also sparked outrage online with his false claims regarding Jackson’s racial heritage. He doesn’t think MJ was a Black man because “Black” would be “someone from the Congo,” he said.
The video has drawn widespread criticism from fans and social media users who say the statements are inaccurate and disrespectful to Michael’s legacy.

Adam Fogelson shared that the director’s cut is “exceptional” and noted the team is preparing to “deliver more Michael soon after we release the first film.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and featuring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar alongside a star-studded cast, the biopic will unfold across two parts and is set to premiere on April 24, 2026.
