Why Charles Todd Says Magic City Is Culturally Unique
Speaking to EURweb, Charles Todd described the moment he realized Magic City’s cultural importance. “There has to be something unique about Magic City that is different than other adult entertainment establishments around the country … like what is happening specifically in Atlanta at this mom and pop strip club to make it so unique. And that’s when I was like, there has to be a deeper story, a more interesting story that that needs to be told here.”
Todd emphasized the underestimated influence of Magic City on hip hop culture. “I think there’s a large part of the culture that doesn’t know how influential Magic City has been, and I think that’s why the hip hop angle is so important to put in our docuseries to finally give the club its flowers in that regard as well.”

Todd hopes the series challenges viewers’ assumptions about strip club culture. “I hope that viewers watch this series and appreciate the nuance and complexity of the stories that we’re telling… we’ve expanded the realm of stories to include nuance, vulnerability, introspection in a way that feels very of the time and also very honest to the subjects.”

Premiere Details and Production Team
Magic City: An American Fantasy is created and executive-produced by Cole Brown, with Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment, Jermaine Dupri, and Jami Gertz as executive producers. The series is directed by Charles Todd—known for Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase The Blues Away and the Latin Grammy-nominated Romeo Santos: King of Bachata—and produced by Scheme Engine, a BIPOC-owned studio championing women and minority representation. Additional team members include showrunner and executive producer Bayan Joonam, executive producers Devin Amar and Alex Kaplan, and producers Ashley Brooke and Marlowe Blue.
The first episode debuts August 15 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on STARZ, with new episodes airing Fridays at 9:00 pm ET/PT.
